JUST a week after its global reveal, 10 examples of Koenigsegg’s new Gemera four-seat hypercar have been confirmed for Australian and New Zealand shores.
Just 300 of the 400km/h hybrids will be produced globally, with Lorbek Bespoke Classic and Collectable Cars general manager Shaun Baker telling GoAuto that four of the 10 units allocated to come Down Under have already had deposits laid down.
“They will be built in right-hand drive for Australia and New Zealand and first cars anticipate delivery in 2023,” he said.
Mr Baker added he expected the remaining six cars to be spoken for within the next week or so given the amount of interest he had received.
Priced from €1.4million ($A2.45million) plus on-road costs, the Gemera will be motivated by a 440kW/600Nm twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine combined with three electric motors to produce a combined 1270kW of power and 3500Nm of torque.
Given the huge amount of torque on hand at any given moment, the Gemera has been given a direct drive setup using a lonesome torque converter.
Koenigsegg claims its latest speed machine will do the 0-100km/h dash in just 1.9 seconds with a claimed driving range of up to 1000km – 950km from the fuel tank and 50km courtesy of the 16.6kWh liquid-cooled battery pack.
Inside there are four seats with Isofix anchorages in the rear with rear occupants also scoring their own infotainment systems.
No other car currently offered in Australia or slated to arrive in the next few years can even think rivalling the Gemera for sheer grunt or performance, with the closest offering in terms of power being the new Ferrari SF90 Stradale with an incomparable but still brutal 736kW and 1000Nm.
In the sprint from 0-100km/h, it is once again the SF90 Stradale that leads the pack in terms of challenging the Koenigsegg’s 1.9 second dash but it still cannot get within half a second, stuck at the 2.5-second barrier.
While it could never be classed as a rival for the mighty Swede, the Rolls Royce Phantom EWB currently holds the title as Australia’s most expensive full production car, asking wealthy punters for $990,000 plus on-road costs – less than half what the multi-million dollar Gemera.
